The aim of the 2024 conference is to explore innovative approaches to diversifying assessment in order to better address the needs, skills and communication mediums of current and future test taker populations.


Call for abstracts

We invite paper submissions that: examine methods for creating inclusive and culturally responsive assessment materials; share examples of best practices and challenges faced; promote innovation in language assessment; foster collaboration and dialogue between language educators, assessment specialists, researchers and practitioners and students in the field.


Sub-themes include:
  • Innovative and novel approaches to assessment, e.g. new mediums and multimodal assessment

  • Inclusive assessment frameworks

  • Examining diversity - both visible and hidden - in learner and test taking population(s)

  • Promoting inclusivity and EDI awareness in different stages of assessment

  • Stakeholder/community involvement in assessment development

  • The role of technologies and AI in diversifying assessment

  • Learner choice in assessment

  • Approaches for identifying and addressing potential sources of bias in assessments

  • Impact on construct(s) of test accommodations and technological innovation

  • Incorporating a diverse range of accents/varieties in assessment materials

The sub-themes are intended to capture major areas of interest but are not intended as an exhaustive list. Proposals on other aspects of the main theme of Diversifying language assessment are also welcome.

Presentation options

a) Presentation: 20 minutes, followed by 10 minutes for questions from the audience

b) Work in progress summary presentation: 3 minutes, followed by a question from the audience

c) Poster presentation: Poster to be on display during the lunch break, with questions from conference attendees as they circulate


Abstract submissions

Use this form to submit an abstract.

  • Submit an abstract of no more than 250 words.

  • Include the presenter(s) information: The first author listed will be used as the main contact point for notification from the organising committee, and will be responsible for notifying any co-author(s).



  • Abstract submission deadline: Monday 8th July 2024

  • Acceptance notification: Monday 22nd July 2024

  • Presenters to accept their presentation: Friday 26th July 2024
